Tax Litigation – Direct & Indirect Tax
Job Description:
The Tax Litigation professional will be responsible for handling and managing tax litigation matters related to Direct and Indirect Taxes, including Income Tax, TDS, and GST. The role involves managing tax notices, assessments, appeals, departmental proceedings, and coordination with internal teams, consultants, auditors, and tax authorities.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Handle Income Tax assessments, notices, appeals, and litigation matters.
- Review and respond to tax notices, queries, and departmental communications.
- Coordinate with tax consultants and legal advisors for ongoing litigation matters.
- Prepare and review submissions, replies, appeal papers, and supporting documentation.
- Represent the company before Income Tax and GST authorities, wherever applicable.
- Manage GST notices, assessments, audits, appeals, and departmental proceedings.
- Handle TDS-related notices, demands, and reconciliation matters.
- Review tax positions and identify potential litigation and compliance risks.
- Coordinate with internal finance and business teams to collect relevant information and documents.
- Track litigation cases, notices, deadlines, hearings, and orders.
- Monitor changes in Income Tax, GST, TDS, and other applicable tax laws.
- Assist in developing strategies for tax disputes and litigation matters.
- Review assessment orders and identify grounds for appeal or further action.
- Maintain proper records of tax notices, submissions, orders, appeals, and litigation cases.
- Prepare tax litigation reports, MIS, and status updates for management.
- Support statutory, internal, and tax audits as required.
- Liaise with consultants, auditors, advocates, and government authorities.
- Ensure timely completion of litigation-related activities and statutory deadlines.
Candidate Profile
- 3–8 years of relevant experience in Tax Litigation, Tax Disputes, Assessments, and Appeals.
- Strong knowledge of Income Tax, GST, TDS, and related tax laws.
- Hands-on experience in handling tax notices, assessments, appeals, and departmental proceedings.
- Experience in coordinating with tax consultants, advocates, auditors, and tax authorities.
- Good understanding of tax litigation procedures and documentation.
- Strong analytical, interpretation, and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and ERP systems such as SAP, Tally, or ZOHO.
- Ability to manage multiple cases and work within strict timelines.
