Job Description:

Role Overview
The Centre of Excellence for Urban Transport focuses on advancing research, policy, and advisory solutions in urban mobility. The Centre addresses critical challenges in sustainable, equitable, and efficient transport systems across India, working closely with governments, international agencies, and academic institutions. It also leverages an academic ecosystem to strengthen research, practice, and policy outcomes.

The Deputy Centre Head will support the Centre Head in achieving strategic objectives by managing day-to-day operations, ensuring high-quality project delivery, and maintaining alignment with organisational goals. The role also involves strengthening partnerships, contributing to research initiatives, and mentoring team members.

Key Responsibilities

Research and Knowledge Development

  • Contribute to the development of research in urban mobility and transport systems
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing within the academic ecosystem

Project Acquisition and Execution

  • Secure and manage research and advisory projects
  • Ensure technical quality aligned with national and international standards
  • Deliver projects within defined timelines and budgets

Financial Management

  • Oversee accurate and transparent financial management of projects
  • Ensure projects maintain profitability and contribute positively to financial growth
  • Support the achievement of financial targets

Team and HR Oversight

  • Manage recruitment, engagement, and exit processes as per guidelines
  • Mentor and guide team members
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work culture

Reporting and Compliance

  • Provide periodic updates on project progress, financials, and team performance
  • Ensure compliance with contractual and organisational standards

Partnerships and Networking

  • Build and strengthen collaborations with national and international stakeholders
  • Represent the Centre in meetings, conferences, and forums

Academic Contributions

  • Engage in academic programs and contribute to teaching and knowledge dissemination

Internal Collaboration

  • Coordinate with internal teams and associated entities for project and research alignment

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Transport Planning, Urban Transport, or related field (PhD preferred)

Experience and Skills

  • 10–12 years of experience across academia, research, and advisory roles
  • Strong experience in urban transport and mobility projects
  • Exposure to areas such as public transport systems, urban freight, non-motorised transport, or transport policy is preferred
