The company is one of the largest independent CPA and business advisory firms in
Northern New England. Our office in India is seeking an experienced 1040 Tax Reviewer with strong
technical expertise in U.S. individual taxation. This role is responsible for reviewing individual income tax
returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance, identifying tax planning opportunities, providing technical
guidance to preparers, and supporting the efficient delivery of high-quality client service.
What You'll Do
- Review U.S. individual income tax returns (Forms 1040 and related schedules, forms, and supporting
documentation) prepared by tax staff.
- Ensure returns are prepared accurately and in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local tax
laws and firm standards.
- Identify review points, technical issues, missing information, and opportunities for tax savings or
process improvement.
- Provide clear and constructive feedback to preparers and assist in resolving complex tax matters.
- Manage assigned review workloads and monitor return status to help ensure timely completion of
deliverables.
- Communicate review comments, technical guidance, and status updates to engagement teams and
leadership.
- Research and resolve complex individual tax issues involving areas such as investments, rentals, pass-
through entities, foreign reporting, trusts, estates, and multi-state taxation.
- Support return extension, estimated tax, and filing requirements as applicable.
- Assist with training and mentoring tax staff to enhance technical knowledge, review readiness, and
overall quality.
- Promote consistency, accuracy, and adherence to firm policies, procedures, and professional
standards.
- Utilise current tax technology and software tools to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Stay current with changes in U.S. tax laws and regulations affecting individual taxpayers.
- Contribute to process improvements and best practices within the tax review function.
Preferred Skills, Experience and Education
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation mandatory.
- Minimum 5-8 years of experience in U.S. tax, with substantial experience reviewing complex individual
income tax returns.
- Strong technical knowledge of U.S. individual taxation, including high-net-worth individual returns.
- Experience reviewing returns involving K-1s, investments, rental properties, pass-through entities,
trusts, estates, multi-state filings, and foreign reporting requirements.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and research skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Proficiency with tax preparation and review software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to provide technical guidance, coaching, and review feedback to preparers.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and commitment to continuous learning.
