General Manager-Category
Job Description:
Purpose of the job:
The company is looking for a high-performing Category General Manager to own the product categories available on the platform. The candidate should have a strong orientation in digital, metric and analytical approaches along with acumen to quickly acquire technical knowledge about the products.
He/she will be responsible for driving sales of portfolio categories in the respective regions, category expansion and geographic expansion. Working closely with sales teams and sellers, keeping abreast of market dynamics and effective feedback loop are important aspects
Key Responsibilities:
1) Seller Management-
- The GM of Category Management responsibilities would include driving strategy, planning, top line, budget management & bottom line for the above.
- He will drive innovation in the value chain by collaborating with stakeholders i.e. Vendors/Suppliers, Marketing Teams.
2) Strategic Leadership-
- Develop and implement category strategies aligned with the company's overall goals.
- Conduct market research to identify opportunities for growth and competitive positioning.
3) Product Management:
Leading Category launch, GTM and growth strategy, Insight generation & streamlining end-to-end process of various product categories to set up an e-commerce platform for India’s biggest manufacturer.
- Oversee product selection, pricing strategies, and promotions to maximize sales and profitability.
- Collaborate with product development teams to innovate and improve existing products.
4) Financial Management:
- Create and manage the category budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources.
- Analyze sales data and financial metrics to inform decision-making and identify areas for improvement.
5) Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with marketing, sales, supply chain, and customer service teams to ensure seamless execution of category initiatives.
- Lead and mentor team members, fostering a culture of collaboration and high performance.
6) Customer feedback
- Gather and analyze customer feedback to enhance product offerings and improve customer satisfaction.
- Develop targeted marketing campaigns to engage customers and drive category growth.
7) Performance Tracking:
- Establish KPIs and regularly report on category performance to senior management.
- Adjust strategies based on performance metrics and market dynamics.
Qualifications-
- MBA – Tier1/2
- 10-15 Years of experience
- Preferred Industry - Steel/Building Material/e-commerce

- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
