Job Description:

About the Role:
We are looking for a Senior Vice President (SVP) of Engineering. The SVP will be crucial in driving technological advancements, focusing on leveraging cutting-edge technology to enhance educational experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy & Planning:
• Lead strategic planning alongside the founders to achieve business goals by prioritizing development initiatives and setting timetables for evaluating, developing, and deploying all products and solutions.

• Evaluate and identify appropriate technology platforms, including web application frameworks and deployment stacks.

• Participate in senior management to ensure governance processes align with company objectives, managing risks and resources responsibly.

• Collaborate with departments to recommend technologies that support organizational needs.

• Establish governance processes that meet privacy standards for customer information.

• Direct the development and execution of an enterprise-wide information security plan.

• Communicate the company’s technology strategy to investors, management, staff, partners, and stakeholders.

Implementation & Deployment:


• Select and set up software revision control systems, internal communications systems (e.g., wiki, blog, project management), and bug-tracking tools.

• Collaborate with founders and customers to develop use cases, specifications, and mockups for company services.

• Refine the company’s software development methodology and oversee specification conformance and testing.

• Establish coding conventions, and documentation standards, and manage staff or vendors to implement the application.

• Supervise the software development process, conduct code reviews, and manage the release process.

• Establish and oversee quality assurance processes, including integration and system testing.

• Evaluate and select web application hosting providers, deploy applications, and monitor performance.

• Create a process to integrate customer service and support with engineering for issue resolution and application usability.

Operational Management:

• Maintain knowledge of technology standards, industry trends, and best practices by attending conferences and reading extensively.

• Define and communicate company values and standards for systems, equipment, and software.

• Ensure adherence to technology standards across the organization.

• Mentor and educate investors, management, staff, and partners on the company’s technological vision.

• Supervise recruitment, training, and retention of development staff, in line with company policies and budget.

Education & Experience:

▪ Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (MBA or relevant graduate degree is a plus). 

▪ 18+ years of experience in managing enterprise application development. 

▪ Experience leading complex projects with multiple stakeholders and vendor management. 

▪ Proven experience with coding in popular web application frameworks and server administration. 

▪ Hands-on experience with web systems architecture, Java/J2EE, CSS, XHTML, JavaScript frameworks, AJAX, and knowledge of web standards


Skills & Competencies:

▪ Strong ability to envision web-based services that solve business problems.

▪ Hands-on experience with multiple software development methodologies and managing large-scale development projects.

▪ Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

▪ Strong leadership, problem-solving, and analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.

▪ Proven ability to motivate teams in a collaborative environment.▪ Strong organizational and time-management skills with experience in delegation and complex project management.

Can be able to manage a team of 100 employees.

Personality Attributes:

▪ Proven leadership ability and experience in SVP/VP/leadership roles.

▪ Exceptional service orientation and ability to motivate in a team-oriented environment
